Two Dollar Tiger Swappable

by Phoenix1962 | November 23, 2013 | (10) Posted in Projects

Succes! The Two Dollar Tiger Swapable finnally had her maiden flight, and it was succesfull. wish I could get Video to share with you, but I don't currently have the equipment. Inspired by the FT Spitfire. I wanted something I could just throwin the car and go flying.  I gave it the name Two Dollar Tiger because it took only two sheets of Adams foam board to build it. I didnt paint the test version for obvious reasons, but I did create a decal sheet in Photoshop, and used it. It looks AWESOME in the air! I have also colored the canopy, and can't wait to build a painted version. Here are some specs. Wing span: 35" Length: 28.7" Weight:21 Oz. Wing aeria: 234 sq " Wing loading 13 oz per sq ft. Designed for a1200 Kv motor and an 8/6 prop. I used a 1300 mAh 4S 20C  to power it on a PLUSH 25 Amp ESC.   It's an awesome little park flier. fits in the back seat of just about any car.

Throw it in the car and head for the park at the spur of the moment when you fnd yourself with some free time!

Gets plenty of air to keep things cool!

Ready to fly!

Great idea. I was flying my 48" FT Spit inspired today at a smaller park and got dizzy. Banking turns the whole time so a 30 something plane is going to be built tonight.

Thank you very much! Look for my next article. "Typhoon Season Is Here!" I test flew the Hawker Typhoon yesterday! Looked so Awesome coming at me in a dive. I can only imagine what fear that would strike up in you if it were real! Got pics of the painted version in this one. Just have to wait on FT to publish it, or you can go to my site beyondthewheelrc.com and view it there! Thanks again, Phoenix

Oh yeah I remember those! I did build a Guillow kit of the P-40 once! It has a special place in my heart because I actually meet one of the flying tigers in my home town. Ran into him and his wife at Bi-Mart. Long story, but my wife and I separated in the store, and she ran into his wife, and I ran into him and When our wives approached us together it was just unreal! Anyway thanks for the comments and look for my next article " Typhoon Season Is Here!" I finished it and test flew it yesterday! got pics of a painted version in this one! Drop by my website at beyondthewheelrc.com for more interesting stuff. I have tons to share, Phoenix

Quick update! I got curious about the Guillow kit that built, so I looked it up online. in 1979 I paid I think somewhere around $15.00 for that kit. They're asking $83.00 for them now! I couldn't imagine buying one to actually build now. I'd be afraid to open the package! Guess I shouldn't have opened the first one. LOL

I had that Cox .049 plane too - how great it was. Heavy, slow, thick plastic - difficult to destroy. I enjoyed it!

Got some color in this one. Just wait til it get.s published! Thanks again, Phoenix

That's great Andre. I'm hoping to fly the Tiger again tomorrow.....Weather permitting. It rained most of the day today. I finally got the Camera I was waiting on, so instead of building another one I just threw on some paint and I'll try to get you all some good video of the flight! Posting some stills of the color version on my site tonight.

Thank you Kurt! Unfortunately I got the Spinner locally at the Clover Leaf Hobby store in Union Gap Wa. Ben has been a great help through getting me started in all this. I'm afraid I didn't even save the package, but I'll drop by today and see if I can get you info on the brand and how to get one, it's 2.5" Diameter. Quite large for such a small aircraft, but the Warhawk was notorious for that big spinner. This one is also used on my Typhoon design. It's also ready for download on my site. You should check it out at beyondthewheelrc.com. I'm planning to offer three versions of the hawker series The Typhoon, Tempest, and the Tornado soon! Thanks again, and I'll get you that info as soon as I can. Phoenix

Hey there Kurt The Spinner is a Du-bro Cat. # 286 you can find it at Horizon hobbies.com or Du-Bro.com for $7.00 I also found a red 3 bladed version on Amazon for just $6.00. Gotta be specific in your search there. I only found the three blade version in white at Horizon and Du-Bro. Phoenix
